Institutions project
HSA+
Beyond the Campus.
Connecting Hellenic Student Associations to one another, to accomplished Greeks, and to opportunities beyond university.
The immediate mission is to energize NHSA.
The larger mission is to build the generation that will eventually lead Greek-American institutions.
Stage Pilot development
A pilot model is being designed and prepared for initial testing. Programming, participants, partners, or operating environments may not yet be finalized.
This entry is an early outline. Scope, participants, and plans will develop as the Institute's work proceeds.

The central idea
HSA+ is not a replacement for existing HSAs, a governing federation, or an official umbrella organization.
Individual HSAs already bring Greek students together. HSA+ aims to connect those communities to one another and to opportunities beyond campus.
- Identify talent
- Regional cohort
- Mentors + projects
- Strengthen HSAs
- Fund NHSA participation
- Recruit more talent
- Develop leaders
01The problem
Greek-American student organizations are structurally fragile.
- Leadership turns over every 1 to 2 years
- Institutional knowledge disappears
- Funding is inconsistent
- Alumni relationships are weak
- Successful chapters rarely transfer knowledge
- Leaders at neighboring universities often do not know one another
This is not merely weak student programming. It is a broken leadership pipeline.
The Institute's opportunity is to intervene earlier.
02The opportunity
NHSA already provides a national platform connecting Hellenic university students.
The answer is not another national student association.
The answer is to produce more students capable of using the existing one effectively.

04Phase I
Build the Prototype
University of Chicago
12 months | Maximum budget: $10,000
UChicago is the first laboratory for the HSA+ model. The purpose is not simply to subsidize an HSA, it is to test whether consistent institutional backing can produce a stronger, more durable organization and create the foundation for a regional cohort.
Pilot principle
Seed funding buys experimentation.
Phase I deliverables
- One consistently active and growing HSA
- Persistent student and alumni database
- Documented leadership-transition process
- Annual programming calendar and recruitment system
- Professional mentorship network
- Repeatable microgrant process
- Relationships with neighboring HSAs
- Initial regional student-leader network
- Identified pipeline of high-potential students
- Written HSA+ Campus Playbook
- Two or more university-approved revenue models tested
- At least one recurring business partnership
05Sustainable revenue
Partnership, Not Sponsorship
We shift the relationship with Greek-American businesses from “give us money” to “let's create value together.”
Greek Students Night
Venue partnerships
Hellenic Graduation Cords & Stoles
Apparel partnership
Greek Coffee & Pastry Pop-Ups
Recurring programming
Ticketed Hellenic Cultural Programming
Public performances
- Reduces donor fatigue
- Generates earned revenue
- Creates value for businesses
- Teaches students real-world institution building
06Phase II
Build the Regional Cohort
Target additional budget: $10,000
The first campus bears the cost of invention. Subsequent campuses inherit the playbook, technology, methods, and partnerships, and should require closer to $2,000 in seed support each.
- 5+
- 15–25
- 1
- 0
Five campuses become one learning network without becoming one organization.
07Phase III
Energize NHSA
Target annual budget: ~$20,000
We invest in a cohort of strong students to participate seriously in NHSA, not random attendance.
- Attend substantive programming
- Volunteer where useful
- Meet HSA leaders nationwide
- Introduce themselves to NHSA leadership
- Identify talented students outside the Midwest
- Build relationships between chapters
- Bring successful practices home
- Consider future NHSA leadership
Illustrative economics
- $500
- × 20
- = $10,000
- × 2
- = $20,000
08The leadership pipeline
- Student
- Campus participant
- HSA leader
- Regional network
- Mentorship / projects / professional connections
- Institutional leadership
Graduation is not the end of the relationship.
We continue to connect, mentor, and engage alumni as they become:
- Professionals
- Entrepreneurs
- Academics
- Donors
- Board members
- Civic leaders
09Beyond NHSA
NHSA is the first proving ground, not the ultimate purpose.
- AHEPA and civic organizations
- Greek schools
- Cultural institutions
- Professional associations
- Philanthropy
- Parish leadership
- Media
- Local federations
- And other national Hellenic institutions
10Success metrics
- Participation
- Regional network
- Institutional strength
- Talent development
11Safeguards
- Campus HSAs remain independent and student-led.
- The Institute does not instruct students how to vote or control NHSA elections.
- NHSA's governance processes are respected.
- Participation does not require political or ideological conformity.
- Funding supports participation and capacity-building, not elections.
- Student information is governed by appropriate privacy standards.
12The ask
- $10KProve it
- $20KBuild the regional network
- $20K+Enter the national ecosystem
First-year funding target
$40,000
This is not another scholarship. It is not another dinner. It is not another youth event.
This is infrastructure for continuously identifying and developing the people who will eventually run Greek-American institutions.
The return on the investment is not measured by what happens on one night. It is measured by whether the students supported today become tomorrow's professionals, donors, founders, academics, board members, and institutional leaders.
