Rather than holding every translation until it meets the standards of a definitive scholarly edition, the Open Hellenic Library follows an open, iterative model. We use artificial intelligence to produce a carefully checked first translation, publish it freely with clear disclosure of how it was created and what level of review it has received, and then improve it over time through documented corrections and community contribution.
We do not treat publication as the end of the scholarly process. We treat it as the beginning of wider access. AI can misread language, context, idiom, and historical meaning, and those limitations must be made explicit. Our editions are therefore never presented as definitive or independently human-verified unless they have actually received that level of review. Instead, each text remains open to scrutiny, revision, and improvement as better readings emerge.
Public-Domain Sources
The Library works exclusively from verified public-domain source works. Modern editions and existing translations are treated separately and require independent rights review before they can be used. This allows us to expand access to neglected Hellenic texts while maintaining a clear distinction between the underlying public-domain work and later copyrighted editorial or translational contributions.
